Thank you @rnmorris for letting me read and review this book. The Crimson Child is a historical thriller and is book 2 in the series. This is the first book I have read by R.N. Morris and I will be reading more. The story hooked me straight the away. Love the names of the characters are very unique. The Crimson Child is a fantastic murder mystery that I could not put down and when I finished the book i was left wanting more. The story is written well and is set in the 19th cenurty in Russia. There is great suspense in the book. I found the plot was away and the characters were unique and likeable. Great read. If you like historical fiction you will love this 5 stars. Blurb Spring 1880. St Petersburg. While on an outing with his family in a leafy park, a retired general encounters a mysterious child dressed in red. The child leads him to a secluded spot. And a violent death. The shocking crime, committed in broad daylight against a respected member of the establishment, strikes terror at the heart of the city. It also draws the attention of the powers that be, who put pressure on magistrate Pavel Pavlovich Virginsky to solve the case quickly. But with no witnesses, apart from a drunken fantasist who may or may not have seen the murderer making their escape, Virginsky faces one of the most challenging and bizarre cases of his career. Then an unexpected confession brings a sudden breakthrough. Or does it? For Virginsky, it’s all a little too convenient. Bio R. N. Morris is the author of the acclaimed historical novel Fortune's Hand. He also wrote The Silas Quinn series of historical crime novels, set in London in 1914: Summon Up The Blood, The Mannequin House, The Dark Palace, The Red Hand of Fury, The White Feather Killer and The Music Box Enigma. Before that he wrote four novels set in St Petersburg in the nineteenth century, featuring Porfiry Petrovich, the investigating magistrate from Dostoevsky’s great novel, Crime and Punishment: A Gentle Axe, A Vengeful Longing (shortlisted for the CWA Duncan Lawrie Gold Dagger Award ), A Razor Wrapped in Silk and The Cleansing Flames (nominated for the CWA Ellis Peters Historical Novel Dagger). He has written a dystopian novel called PSYCHOTOPIA. “AMERICAN PSYCHO meets READY PLAYER ONE, this terrifying glimpse into the heart of darkness gripped me by the throat and never let go.” Sunday Times/USA Today bestselling author Cass Green. Taking Comfort is a standalone contemporary novel, written as Roger Morris. Meanwhile the tsar’s trusted adviser, Count Loris-Melikov, pushes Virginsky to undertake a dangerous mission. He must find a way to infiltrate a group of disaffected reactionaries with whom the dead man was associated. Could this shadowy group be behind the general’s murder? And what will they do to Virginsky if they find out he is there to spy on them? As he closes in on the murderer, Virginsky uncovers a dark history in which the crimes of the past give rise to further crimes.
