Never Closer by Margot Shepherd

Thank you @The_WriteReads/@WriteReadsTours for letting be part of this tour and reviewing this book. Never Closer has two Narratives Alice who is in the past in 1941 and Jo who is in the present day 2017 and her daughter who is 18 years old is in Hospital, and she is very poorly. I felt for Jo a lot because she is watching her child in Hospital who could die and there's nothing she can do but having that feel hopeless, this must be awful, and I think I would be the same in that position. Then there is Alice who is 17 years old who is working in a lab to find a new drug which is called Penicillin. I really enjoyed how Jo and Alice life become entwined by Jo discover Alice Diary in a shop. Never Close is written beautiful, and you will get drawn into this book and will not want it to end. There are some great themes through the book, Strong women, Motherhood, and Medicine. I Never Closer is easy to get into and at a good pace. This is a fascinating story and I enjoyed founding out about the new drug Penicillin. I liked the characters a lot, and they were very easy to like and connect with. Engrossing read 5 stars. Blurb On an ordinary day in 2017, Jo receives a phone call about her 18-year-old daughter, Jessie. It is the call that every parent dreads. In 1940, 17-year-old Alice ties on her facemask and enters a laboratory to harvest a potential new miracle drug called penicillin. The lives of these women become entwined when Jo finds Alice’s diary in a vintage handbag. Past and present overlap and merge as life-changing events resonate for them all across the gulf of time. This is a story about a diary opening a door on the past, chronicling a young woman’s determination to succeed against all odds, while unknowingly inspiring others to step into a better life. Set against the backdrop of the Second World War, the infancy of antibiotics and a modern medical emergency and its consequences, it not only reminds us how fortunate we are to live now, but also serves as a stark warning about the fragility of life and the dangers of complacency.
